When Ashely of “Done Neatly” contacted me in the new year, I felt as if my prayers were answered. Or maybe it was the prayers of my mom and sisters, I am not too sure. She reached out to see if we could collaborate on a home organization project together. Be still my wanna-be organized heart, I thought. In my head the spaces for her to get into were endless. However, after touring my home the vote was instant and unanimous, my closet was to be done! Cue the fireworks that my mom and sisters set off, along with “I told you so” type commentary. Yes, I am always striving to clean up , clean out, and organize. I am constantly purging, and donating no doubt. However, I really lack that magic Mr. Clean touch.

I work myself silly trying to make sure the house is clean and then some. It bothers me when I know a closet isn’t as neat as it should be. It literally haunts me and keeps me up at night. However, I just never feel like I am able to get to everything. So my closet, is mine, it only affects me. Therefore, yes it is the messiest room in the house. I shut that door and just say, I will get to it tomorrow. Well now it finally has come! After 4 hours in my closet, Ashley has turned this mess of sweaters, poorly hung up clothes, and mountains of accessories into a place I almost want to hide with my cup of coffee. Here is the embarassing before:

Once you have a system in place it becomes easier to maintain. Here are some tips I picked up from Ashley in how to get your “system” started.

  • First thing you do is “edit,” meaning take everything out of your closet. Then see what your are keeping or donating. Do not organize what you do not want to keep!

  • Organize by type of clothing first. Such as shirts, sweaters, pants, skirts, and etc.

  • Then within those catagories organize by color starting with whites and ending with black. Using the rainbow pattern, “ROYGBIV.”

  • Find a neat and consistent way of folding. I have the videos of Ashley folding my sweaters below.

Organizing is worth it just for the fact that it gives you MORE SPACE. Who doesn’t need that? I couldn’t believe how much better and how much more clothing fit in my closet. Another tip Ashley gave me was regarding organization products. Make sure you use everything in the same color, it makes for a cleaner look. For example, now all my hangers are the same material and color. Along with the baskets used on my shelves, all white. All the products you saw in my closet that day are linked below. This is totally something you can do yourself! However, if you are like me you need a gentle push. Having a blueprint is a total game changer for me. I just could not envision things the way Ashley did. It is such a breath of fresh air. It is almost like getting a new mani/pedi haha! Check out Done Neatly for more information on how you can get Ashley to come reinvigorate your space. Giving you a new starting point within your home and motivation to stay organized!
