Sweet and Spicy Asian Inspired Slaw


Chef One was started in 1999 by Chinese Americans who sought to bring Asian flavors to the mainstream culinary scene. Their factory is currently located in Brooklyn, New York, The factory turns out an impressive 44,000 dumplings per hour. The dumplings and noodles are served in restaurants throughout New York. Chef One has been working on getting some of those thousands of dumplings to your table. The dumplings are now available in upwards of 250 Shoprite stores. The flavors feature Kale and Chicken, Vegetable, Kung Pao Chicken, and Thai Chicken to the line-up available in grocery stores.

The dumplings alone are delicious. The soft dough enveloping crunchy veggies and other flavorful fillings make this a great appetizer or an amazing lunch in my case. Of course, dumplings are great to dip but paired with an Asian inspired slaw makes them an even more complete dish. The crunchy slaw and the pillowy dough make a great bite! If you are short on time placing the dumplings in a shallow bowl with a wet paper towel over them and microwaving according to package directions is just fine. In the event, you have a couple of minutes after microwaving, sauté them quickly in some sesame oil to brown them making them even more delicious!

Sweet and Spicy Asian Inspired Slaw

This Asian inspired slaw is spicy, sweet, and crunchy. A great side dish to dumplings, or pulled pork. Great for game day or lunch time!


ingredients

  • 1 c napa cabbage, shredded (thinly sliced)

  • 1 c red cabbage, shredded (thinly sliced)

  • 1/2 c carrots, shredded

  • 1/3 c red onion, sliced thin

  • 1/2 Tbsp garlic, minced

  • 1 tsp fish sauce

  • 2 tbsp sesame oil

  • 2 Tbsp rice vinegar

  • 1 1/2 Tbsp mayo

  • 1/3 tsp sugar

  • 1 tsp Roasted Red Chili Paste (Thai Kitchen brand carries this)

  • Salt, to taste

  • Pepper, to taste

instructions

  1. In a large bowl combine the cabbage, carrots, and onion.

  2. Pour the dressing over the vegetable mixture and toss well to incorporate. Let it sit in the refrigerator for 30 minutes. Give it another toss and serve with dumplings.

  3. In a small bowl whisk, together fish sauce, garlic, sesame oil, rice vinegar, sugar, salt, pepper, roasted red pepper paste, and mayo.

  4. Pour the dressing over the vegetable mixture and toss well to incorporate. Let it sit in the refrigerator for 30 minutes. Give it another toss and serve with dumplings.
