48 Hours in Boston
Quick trip to Boston to see Ben Rector and visit @bgonsar ‘s favorite spots. When Brian and I were first married he took a job in Boston but we stayed in New Jersey. He would travel there Monday morning and stay until Thursday. At the time I was in grad school and then a school counselor. During the summer sometimes I would go with him and wander around the city while he was at work. We stayed in the North end and I just loved it there! I would walk out of our hotel and hear Frank Sinatra in the streets. Pass by people visiting with each other on their front steps or outside restaurant. Once in a while catch the smell of garlic and oil wafting through the street from some “red sauce” joint.
Let’s throw it back to the “old days” and do a little #couplethateatstogether recommendations if you find yourself heading to Boston in the near future. Make sure to walk the North End, spend time some time by the water watching the sailboats. If you can go during the Fisherman’s Feast in August, you won’t be disappointed.
Some of Our Favorites
Mikes Pastry, The Modern, and Bova’s all get votes for top bakery. My inbox floods with the war of the cannoli, haha! All have lines, this time around I went to Mikes, it wasn’t the cannoli that stood it out, it was that Raspberry Roll, oh man!
Saltie Girl- The Amatriciana Pasta with smoked sardines and garlic breadcrumbs was one of the best pasta dishes I have had in a while. The Tinned Fish menu was also a lot of fun to explore. Don’t forget about the crab toast piled high with creamy Stracciatella cheese underneath!
Krasi- This new Greek spot is one where you definitely need a reservation. Each dish we had was a standout! This is definitely a place to bring someone you like to share and explore with. We loved the grilled shrimp with caper butter, and the marinated rotisserie chicken. If it were up to me I would survive on dip alone. Don’t miss the spicy whipped feta!
Blackbird Donuts- This place is special to us because they partnered with Brian and put a recipe in the back of his forthcoming graphic novel, Dracula’s Brunch Cub. I am in love with their Everything Bagel doughnut, we also discovered the Kiddie Cone with the Ice Cream Glaze was a winner. Honestly, you can’t go wrong with any doughnut can you?
Other places to check out:
Neptune Oysters- This place has a line out the door 24/7 but for good reason. If you love oysters and seafood, it is a great place to check out!
Union Oyster House- Established in 1826, this place as a national landmark, so we went years ago during our first visit. If you are an oyster lover, this is a must!
Shake the Tree- This shop was filled with homegoods, really cute clothes, and gifts. You can tell they were carefully curated with hosting a dinner party in mind.
James and Hook Co- Grab a lobster roll and head outside! Walk it off down at the Marina!
